Numidia Dragway in Catawissa, Pennsylvania was full of action this past weekend for the second stop on the NHRA Lucas Oil divisional series tour and Bongiovanni Racing was there running strong with the team’s Micro Strategies-backed Cobra Jet Mustangs. Located three hours from Bongiovanni Racing headquarters, Numidia is a favorite track of the team drivers. This weekend, Kenny Miele, along with Michelle and Anthony Bongiovanni produced outstanding results.
Michelle and Anthony kicked off to a great start, qualifying 6th and 7th respectively in Super Stock; while Anthony and Kenny ran strong in Stock Eliminator. All three drivers scored First-Round victories and moved to eliminations on Sunday.
Michelle lost in the Second round of Super Stock, and both Anthony and Kenny dropped out in the Third round of Stock Eliminator. This left Anthony in his 2014 Super Stock Cobra Jet Mustang as the sole runner.
Anthony was on his game, defeating George Taylor, Ron Huntzberry, Jamie Groves and Wendy Caliendo in the semis to move into the final round. In the final match, Anthony faced Division 1 regular, James Antonette. Anthony left with a strong .029 reaction time, but it was a tad slower than Antonette, who had a near-perfect .003, and that made the difference at the finish line, with Antonette taking the win by a slim margin.
“We had a great showing at Numidia Dragway,” said Anthony. “It’s always great to race with Michelle and Kenny and we really enjoy this track. We do quite a bit of testing here and so it’s great tome come out and run well in competition. Kenny and Michelle went some rounds and I was fortunate enough to make it to the final. James [Antonette] gave me a great race, he was just a bit better today and he deserves the win.”
Bongiovanni Racing hits the track next at Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk, Ohio June 20-23. This is one of the most popular races on the NHRA at the famed facility owned by the Bader family.
