Here's a great definition of being a team player: one who unites others toward a mutual destiny, through sharing information and ideas, empowering others, and developing trust.

Since joining Micro Strategies, I realize that above all else, our most important goal is for every staff member to embody this behavior of teamwork – with our clients, our business partners, and each other. This is the #1 reason we continue to succeed, grow, and have fun in the process. After spending nearly 30 years in many different management positions at IBM, I am very excited to lead our sales, marketing, and business development efforts!

This latest newsletter offers our clients alternatives to higher hardware maintenance costs with the introduction of IBM’s new POWER7 technology. We also provide considerations for upgrading older Windows technology to achieve more with your current staff, give insights into Alfresco’s new CMIS solution with its very powerful integration capabilities, and illustrate a wonderful community involvement with NY’s Voices Of Women.

Ingram Micro's VTN "IT Makeover" – Helping NY's Voices Of Women

IBM's New POWER7 – An Alternative To Higher SUN Maintenance

. . .Big buzz about IBM's new POWER7 resulted in a big turnout at Micro Strategies recent briefing introducing IBM's POWER7 technology.

It is evident that amazing return on investment is possible through the outstanding improvements in performance, energy utilization, and virtualization/consolidation found in POWER7.

For the same price, POWER7 is 3 - 4 times more energy efficient than IBM's POWER6 and delivers up to 4 times more performance and virtualization capability. As reductions to IT budgets continue, potential cost savings are more important now than ever.

Additionally, Oracle's purchase of SUN Microsystems is generating fear in the marketplace that maintenance charges for older SUN equipment will increase dramatically. This makes the evaluation of more cost effective and higher performance systems necessary.

The briefing opened on the topic of the SUN/Oracle merger and what it means for SUN customers. Discussions included POWER7's new features, the differences between POWER7 and POWER6, how POWER7 and XIV work together, and server and storage virtualization, including SVC. Clients were interested in hearing how POWER7 supports consolidation of UNIX, System i and Linux workloads, with the ability to move workloads across the entire server environment, leveraging a dynamic workload-balancing capability.

If simplifying your IT infrastructure is a top priority, POWER7 servers are designed to help businesses tackle the most data intensive challenges while at the same time creating efficiencies in costs and energy.

Ingram Micro's VTN "IT Makeover" – Helping NY's Voices Of Women

As part of an "IT makeover" for a New York women's shelter, Ingram Micro's VentureTech Big Apple Chapter has donated more than $30,000 worth of equipment, labor and services. This effort will help fund New York's Voices of Women (VOW) Organizing Project with leadership training, development and support of survivors of domestic violence, as well as the organization's outreach efforts.

The Big Apple Cares was started by a group of solution providers, including Micro Strategies, and plans to help other local organizations throughout the year. Voices of Women was chosen as the first recipient because they are a customer of one of the VTN members, who knew they needed a technology upgrade but couldn't afford one, said Dara Orsini, a Client Solutions Executive at Micro Strategies.

"With the way the economy has been, we felt it was a time to reflect on what you have and what other people might need. We have the time and resources and we thought it would be a great way to give some of our resources and expertise to help others," Orsini said.

The Big Apple Chapter's work is part of a larger initiative by Ingram Micro's VentureTech Network to give back to the community. VentureTech has steadily increased its charitable work over the last couple of years after initially holding a children's bike building contest at a conference in New Orleans. The bikes were donated to children of that city.
