New York Women's Shelter - Dara Orsini lends a hand
VentureTech VARs Give Helping Hand To Women's Shelter
Solution providers of a regional chapter of Ingram Micro's VentureTech Network, including Micro Strategies of Denville, NJ, have donated more than $30,000 worth of IT equipment, labor and services as part of an "IT makeover" for a New York women's shelter.
The VTN members received products from 3Com , Lenovo, Microsoft, NComputing, Netgear, SonicWALL, Symantec, V7 and Xerox to use in the project, which also includes three years of IT support services to be provided by members of the Big Apple Chapter using Ingram Micro's Seismic managed services offerings.
The equipment and services computers donated as part of the VTN chapter's new Big Apple Cares outreach program will help fund New York's Voices of Women (VOW) Organizing Project with leadership training, development and support of survivors of domestic violence, as well as the organization's outreach efforts.
"For our members, the ability to utilize up-to-date computers to further their efforts in stabilizing their lives by finding a home, looking for jobs, or keeping up with their educational coursework, helps them to move further away from violence and is a dream come true," said Raquel Singh, executive director for VOW, in a statement. "We are sincerely grateful to the Big Apple Chapter and proud to be the first recipient to benefit from the Big Apple Cares initiative."
The Big Apple Cares was started by solution providers Chelsea Technologies, Comtel Global Services, Lincoln Computer Services and Micro Strategies and the organization plans to help other local organizations throughout the year.
Voices of Women was chosen as the first recipient because they are a customer of one of the VTN members, who knew they needed a technology upgrade but couldn't afford one, said Dara Orsini, a client solutions executive at Micro Strategies Inc., Denville, N.J., one of the Big Apple Chapter VARs.
"With the way the economy has been, we felt it was a time to reflect on what you have and what other people might need. We have the time and resources and we thought it would be a great way to give back from our [expertise]," Orsini said.

Operation Iraqi Freedom - Marine Corps Unit grateful for support
On January 2, 2006 the brother of a Micro Strategies' employee Adam Zajicek was deployed overseas to serve in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Justin Zajicek serves with the United States Marines Corps unit Marine Wing Support Group 37 based out of San Diego, CA. Justin and his unit are currently stationed at Al Asad Air Base in the Al Anbar Province in Iraqi. In support of Justin and all the members of Group 37, Micro Strategies held a donation drive over a three week period collecting non-perishable items ranging from shampoo to toothpaste, potato chips to laptops to send overseas. Employees of Micro Strategies, family members and friends all contributed items that would be practical (bathroom essentials and snacks) and fun (decks of cards, crossword puzzles, two laptops, a digital camera and the latest PEOPLE magazines!). A total of 7 large boxes were shipped to Group 37 in Iraqi as our gesture of support.

St. Peter's Village - A thank you from St. Peter's
Saint Peter's Village is a residential treatment facility for adolescent boys, whose parents, for a variety of reasons are unable to care for them. Our boys have mild to moderate emotional, behavioral or social problems. Although Saint Peters is a residential facility, we work very hard to assure our residents an atmosphere that is truly non-institutional, and more like a large family.
Our website provides a great way to learn more about our facility, the opportunities we provide and our staff. Please take a look around and feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
For more information please contact St. Peter's Village.
